ABOUT ROMULUS FOLIO GALLERY

ROMULUS Folio is an independent contemporary gallery and art advisory based in Melbourne, presenting emerging and established artists through curated exhibitions, commissions and interdisciplinary collaborations. Its program explores relationships between contemporary art, materiality and space, bringing painting, sculpture, fibre and design into conversation.

Founded online in 2024, ROMULUS developed into a physical gallery and open studio at The Gladstone in South Melbourne in 2025 before relocating to the World Trade Centre Melbourne in 2026. This formative period brought artistic production into public view and established a sustained program of exhibitions, artist talks and collaborative projects.

ROMULUS is now developing a more focused gallery and advisory model, building on its studio origins through curated presentations, artist relationships and engagement with collectors. Its direction centres on supporting artists’ practices and creating opportunities for their work through exhibitions, art fairs and commissioned projects.

EXHIBITION PROGRAM

The gallery’s exhibitions explore connections between distinct artistic practices while giving each artist’s work space to communicate its own concerns. Material, form, narrative and the experience of space provide recurring points of enquiry across the program.

In 2026, Prototypes brought together fibre and material practices by Kasia Dudkiewicz, Lucia Medina and Arabella Strachan. PRISM presented eight artists working across abstraction, figuration and expanded approaches to painting, while Fusion explored the relationship between sculpture, furniture and spatial design through Mark Alexander’s work. Inside Wonder foregrounded Xinzhi (Dorris) Li’s paintings, exploring memory, sensation and the shifting relationship between colour and form. Works by Usha Newland and sculptural pieces by Mark Alexander extended the exhibition’s dialogue between painting, object and space.

These presentations reflect an interest in artworks that invite close attention to their construction, ideas and relationship with their surroundings. The program brings different media together through considered curatorial connections, extending conversations between art, design and architecture.

ARTISTS, COLLECTORS AND COMMISSIONS

ROMULUS works with artists, collectors, interior designers, architects and project partners to support the presentation, selection and commissioning of contemporary art. These relationships connect gallery exhibitions with opportunities for artworks to enter collections and become part of residential, commercial and shared environments.

Commissioned projects extend this engagement through works developed in response to particular spaces and artistic briefs. The gallery supports communication and coordination between artists and clients, with attention to artistic intent, material qualities and the experience of the completed work.

OUR APPROACH

ROMULUS combines curatorial enquiry with practical support for exhibiting and collecting contemporary art. Its approach values individual artistic perspectives, thoughtful presentation and lasting professional relationships.

Building on its history of public programming, collaboration and University of Melbourne internship placements, the gallery continues to develop opportunities for artistic exchange and professional experience. Its next phase brings a clearer focus to exhibitions, advisory services and the sustainable development of artists’ practices.
